Aix-en-Provence France
Inspiration in the 'Paris of the South'
Aix-en-Provence (pronounced 'Ex' by the locals), just north of Marseille, is a wonderful city, combining a busy and historic university with vibrant local life and tourist attractions. There are grand public squares, leafy boulevards, lots of 18th-century majesty, and endless cafes and restaurants to sit in and watch the world go by.
On Saturdays there are markets everywhere, selling flowers, fish, clothes, fruit, vegetables, and other delights. The Cours Mirabeau is a place of history and leisure, and always one of the city's busiest and most lively areas. The artist Paul Cézanne lived and worked here, and there remains a very strong trend towards art and culture.
You can get to the sea in under one hour or go for walks in the beautiful countryside, taste wine, mountain bike, play golf, and horse-back ride. This is quintessential France at its best and the Provence as it has become know throughout the world.
