Chamonix France
High energy sports or natural relaxation
Chamonix valley provides a beautiful holiday setting for summer holidays: very little concrete outside of the main town, forests on all sides, beautiful glaciers, and plenty to do. Few other Alpine resorts compare with it for relaxation, sport, and serenity. Most importantly, Chamonix is only one hour from Geneva airport and close to both the Swiss and Italian borders. August can be a bit crowded but you will find lots of secluded chalets where you will hardly notice a soul.
The Chamonix valley is 20km long, and offers something for everyone: shops and cafes in Chamonix town, charming hamlets such as Le Tour or Les Praz, or traditional villages such as Argentiere. Enjoy a lovely, traditional, mountain restaurant or take a picnic. You are also well located for visits to Courmayeur (Italy), Martigny (Switzerland) and Annecy (France).
They say that Chamonix has even more visitors in summer than in winter but in summer they are often day visitors and the rest of the time you have the valley to yourself. Temperatures never get too hot and although there are not too many chalets with pools there are several hotel and public pools that are available for our guests.
This is an ideal resort to come with your family especially if the children are of an age for lovely walks through the forests, spotting wild animals and discovering the enchantment of the Alps in summer. If you have the energy you might also try some mountaineering and the growing mountain biking craze that is sweeping the valley.
