Villa Malabata Ibiza, Spain

A perfect blend of Ibizencan white and African colour

This villa is on top of the Coll des Vents, one of the most coveted areas of Ibiza, near Cala Tarida and overlooking s'Espartar island, a rocky outcrop to the west of Ibiza. The property is extremely private even though it does have neighbouring villas above and below it. This is an area not of manicured gardens but of juniper and pine and wilder landscapes overlooking the sea. The property is protected from the easterly winds of the summer months and is built on a single floor. There is an infinity pool that is not necessarily child safe but otherwise the property is suited for children and you are ten minutes drive from Cala Tarida beach.

When rebuilding this villa, its owner, an interior and furniture designer from Valencia, was inspired by the cubic volumes of the typical Ibizencan country houses with their white interiors and the cooling qualities of their structures. The original construction was enlarged and converted to a contemporary style that reflects the simplicity from which it was inspired. Glass walls, sky fans and polished-concrete floors bring light into the traditional spaces. An intricate play of platforms, fountains, stones, lights and water guides you into the villa and plays with your senses. The interiors are furnished with the designer's own creations, inspired by the rounded pebbles so abundant on the island. Expressive African art stimulates the eye and sends out an appeal to those who like an earthy touch in their environment.
