Nendaz Switzerland

Gateway to the Four Valleys

Located in the heart of Valais, Nendaz, along with Verbier, Veysonnaz, Thyon and La Tzoumaz is part of the Four Valleys ski domain. It has vast panoramic views of the Rhone valley and across to the Alps with the lights of Crans Montana a clear landmark at night. Nendaz is a twenty minute drive from the historic town of Sion, which has a small airport ideal for private planes.

With a relaxed laid back atmosphere Nendaz is ideal for families looking for an active sporting holiday, but is not really geared for those seeking nightlife and the jet-set. It has to be said Nendaz is not the most beautiful of ski resort villages (yet), but in recent years an effort has been made to improve the general look and upgrade facilities. There are now a number of great “après ski” bars, many with live music, where you can enjoy a mulled wine after a day on the slopes. The restaurants in Nendaz are unpretentious and good with many serving local specialities.

Nendaz would probably not be on the radar of the non-skier, but does offer some very attractive walks along the famous “bisses” canals and sunny terraces with fantastic views. Highly recommended is an outing to the glacier of Mont Fort which is at 3300m and has an amazing panorama on the Alps. For the total Swiss experience attend the International Alphorn festival held every summer along the banks of Lake Tracouet!

Part of one of the biggest ski areas in Europe, there are over 400km of pistes and 92 lifts offering a full range of slopes from the wonderful beginners’ snow garden on the frozen lake in Tracouet to some tough off piste runs in the higher areas. We recommend the glacier of Mont Fort at 3300m with its amazing panorama on the Alps and which is also accessible to non-skiers.
